About Specialty Benchmarks

Specialty Benchmarks collects and reports patient safety and practice quality information so that provider groups can improve quality results, communicate their contribution to quality at sites they contract with, and differentiate themselves from competitor groups in order to retain and grow business. Ours is a business value proposition: getting a business return for our clients on their investment in data.

We administer a controlled, auditable process that captures information regarding risk-stratification, perioperative outcome, process metrics, and PACU patient experience at facilities our clients support. The majority of our clients monitor general medical/surgical procedures in their hospitals and ASCs as well as eye clinics, endoscopy clinics, etc. We have also implemented a pediatric-specific outcomes program in multiple children’s hospitals. We provide a similar service for pain management providers.

The process we use involves collecting data, validating and hosting the data in a very well-designed database, and using our database technology to report out information for multiple constituencies. Our process is independent of systems you use and we minimize impact on established process at your sites. We limit information we collect at point of service for QA-program purposes to risk, event and process quality information not captured for billing.

Right now, most QA data for each procedure is collected on a paper form that is not part of the patient record, but we also offer electronic submission options for mobile devices and PCs. We work with your billing folks to receive routine electronic extracts of billing data in a format that is convenient for them. We link QA data with billing information to build a consolidated record for each patient encounter that then populates our database. Since we know the universe of all billed procedures, we are able to report accurate event rates and to monitor QA reporting compliance by site and provider.

Collecting data without disrupting normal workflow and using it efficiently to meet multiple business needs is what we do:

  • Reporting: We are your outsource resource for all scheduled and on-demand reporting. We send print-quality reports electronically on a scheduled basis as agreed upon with each client. These can include practice dashboards, event reports with back-up detail, PQRS reports, OPPE reports and credentialing information customized to each site’s specifications.

  • Quality Improvement: Reports compare your data with regional or national risk-stratified benchmark norms for similar site categories constructed from our database. Statistical information identifies meaningful variance from norms. This is the fast and effective way to convert data into knowledge and knowledge into action.

Our integration of efficient data capture, data base management, analytics and benchmarking, highly responsive customer service and strategic partnering delivers real value to our customers.
